Peter Sinclair
Explaining the Science of Climate Change
Presentation to take place Wednesday, November 9, 2011
No issue will have a greater impact on the new century than the decisions we make on energy and the impact of global climate change. The Kalamazoo Environmental Council presents Peter Sinclair “Explaining the Science of Climate Change” on November 9, from 7-9 pm at the Kalamazoo Nature Center, 7000 N. Westnedge Ave. Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
For the last 4 years, Peter Sinclair has been asking, begging, cajoling, hectoring, pestering, wheedling, and otherwise persuading the world's leading climate scientists to explain to him what they do, and what their findings are, in words that average people can understand.
In particular, Peter has been trying to get the answers to the dozens of little nuggets of disinformation about climate change that one hears so often on certain cable news channels, the internet, or talk radio - what Mr Sinclair calls the Climate Denial Crocks.
For 2 years now, he's collected the results of his investigations in a youtube series called, naturally, "Climate Denial Crock of the Week". (climatecrocks.com) To get a feel for what it's like, imagine if John Stewart had invented Al Gore.
The science behind climate change has been solid and widely accepted since the 1950s - only the
level of detail and breadth of observations have changed. Yet most people still believe there is a serious debate of the major issues among serious scientists in the field.
This is not true, anymore than there is a debate that HIV causes AIDS - although internet conspiracy
sites may promote other conspiracy theories. The issue at this time is not the science, but rather, to communicate the science to the non professional audience of citizens and decision makers.
Join us to hear Peter Sinclair explain the science of climate change.
